Moving On From Death

Updated: May 3, 2022

When someone dies, it's unexpected and sudden, even if it's predicted. It hits us like a train, and we don't know how to react sometimes. When a certain person is gone, we believe that there's nothing we can do to move on without them; that's not true. Here are some ways that you can move on from death.

  1. Worship - No matter what your religion is, I've always found a common safe space worshiping the Lord, or praying in general. Though some of your prayers may not be answered right that moment, relief will come when it is most needed.

  2. Meditate/Calm Down - Sit in a quiet room, preferably on a soft surface such as a bed or yoga mat, and close your eyes. Listen to the sounds and try to focus on one specific noise. Maybe it's a pair of voices or birds chirping. That one noise will take your mind of the anxiety of your recent or not, death.

  3. Start Up Conversation - Contact a friend, make plans with family. Social Interaction with others is one of the key points to moving over something. Find someone you support or trust to talk to.

  4. Take Care of Yourself - Go for a run or walk, eat some healthy food, go get exercise, listen to music, the list continues. If you take better care of your physical, emotional, and intellectual state, it can help you better repair what's happening in your mind.

  5. Accept Your Feelings And The Death - It's not good to keep everything hidden or quiet. Speak up and speak out, let someone know so you can get help. Bottling up your feelings is the opposite of a good way to treat a loss. Accept that they are gone, but don't seek revenge or use your anger to get your way. Keep feelings outward, but controlled.
